There was improved demand in the first auction of the year with 147,165packages (9,493,191 kilos) on offer and only 13.88% remained unsold.

Best BP1s met improved interest at USC14 to USC22 above last levels while brighter sorts were irregular ranging between firm to USC11 dearer to easier by a similar margin; mediums saw an irregular tendency varying between USC3 to USC22 above last prices to easier by USC3 to USC11 with a few lines remaining unsold. Lower mediums held firm to USC8 dearer while plainer descriptions were well competed for and appreciated by USC4 to USC32.

Best PF1s were firm to USC17 dearer while brighter teas met improved enquiry gaining USC6 to USC26 with mediums USC8 to USC20 dearer. Lower mediums saw an irregular enquiry and varied between firm to USC26 dearer to easier by upto USC8 with plainer sorts gaining by USC2 to USC26.

Best PDUSTs met irregular demand and ranged between firm to USC18 dearer to easier by upto USC33 while brighter categories were a strong feature gaining USC4 to USC30 with mediums firm to USC26 dearer. Lower mediums were steady to USC15 above last levels while plainer lines appreciated by USC4 to USC20.

Best DUST1s met better interest appreciating by upto USC8 while brighter sorts saw an irregular enquiry varying between firm to USC12 dearer to easier by upto USC10. Medium DUST1s were firm to USC14 dearer. Lower mediums gained USC7 to USC15 while plainer types met better absorption at USC4 to USC22 above last prices.

In the secondary catalogues BPs were irregular while PFs appreciated. Clean well sorted coloury Fannings and similar DUSTs were firm to dearer. Other Fannings gained while DUSTs were irregular. BMFs were discounted.

Pakistan Packers were strong and dominant while Afghanistan lent strong support with more activity from Egyptian Packers, Yemen, other Middle Eastern countries, Bazaar, Sudan. Kazakhstan and other CIS countries. UK was active but selective while Russia was operating with Iran quiet. Somalia was active but at lower levels.
