Improved general demand for the 104,121 packages (6,623,266 kilos) on offer which strengthened as the sale progressed and prices closely followed quality. 18.31% teas remained unsold. Best BP1s on offer were marginally easier with brighter categories gaining USC6 to USC10 while mediums opened about firm and thereafter gained upto USC30. Lower mediums saw an irregular enquiry ranging between firm to USC8 dearer to easier by a similar margin with plainer descriptions barely firm to USC4 dearer and poorest types shed upto USC6 where sold. The best PF1s available were well-competed for appreciating by upto USC28 while brighter types opened USC8 above lest level gaining upto USC20 thereafter. Lower medium PF1s were rather irregular varying between USC24 dearer to easier by upto USC44 with plainer sorts a weak feature and ranged between USC6 dearer to USC10 easier. The best PDUSTs available gained USC10 with brighter category USC6 to USC20 dearer while mediums were USC8 to USC16 above last prices. Lower mediums saw price increases of between USC2 to USC14 while plainer sorts were about steady to USC4 dearer. The best DUST1s on offer were USC5 dearer while brighter sorts varied between USC2 to USC5 dearer to easier by USC4 to USC12. Lower mediums were irregular varying between firm to USC14 dearer to easier by upto USC6 with plainer types irregularly firm but plainest were difficult of sale and were neglected. In the secondary catalogues BPs were steady while PFs eased. Clean well sorted coloury Fannings and similar DUSTs were dearer. Other Fannings were irregularly firm while DUSTs held value. BMFs were well absorbed at last levels. Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries lent strong support with more activity from Afghanistan, Sudan, Kazakhstan and other CIS states. Pakistan Packers maintained interest but were selective with Egyptian Packers also maintaining selective activity. Bazaar maintained enquiry and UK was less active and more selective. Russia was quiet with Iran subdued. Somalia maintained activity especially at the lower end of the market.
